Mineral Negotiating Landman

Reporting to the Director, Land Negotiations, and in collaboration with the Land Administration Group, this position is responsible for land activity related to acquisitions, divestitures and/or area landman duties within a geographic area, including:

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Acquisitions Team to provide support in analyzing, vetting and summarizing various land information required for the evaluation of oil and gas assets across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (“WCSB”) and various basins in the United States;
  • Research of land ownership, regulations, industry activity, etc. in the WCSB and various basins in the United States;
  • Work with the Disposition/Rationalization Team to provide support in analyzing, vetting and summarizing land information required for disposition opportunities;
  • Draft, review and negotiate agreements related to acquisitions and dispositions;
  • Develop opportunities to optimize the value of the Company’s land inventory, which involves negotiating and drafting land related agreements including farmouts, farmins, poolings and mineral lease agreements;
  • Monitor the performance of contractual obligations;
  • Maintain awareness of government regulations and policy;
  • Identify investment opportunities; communicate them to the members of the area team; and contribute to the implementation of strategies to achieve objectives;
  • Interact with other departments to ensure the timely exchange of information, including, land expiries and continuations, independent operations notices and Crown land sales;
  • Establish and maintain industry contacts through effective networking; and
  • Represent the Company with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.

Qualifications:

  • Preference given to university graduates, preferably in business with PLM designation;
  • Member of CAPL with 7 to 10 years of Canadian mineral land experience;
  • Solid understanding of Canadian P&NG regulations, freehold mineral leases and titles, agreements, operations and royalty interests;
  • Strong computer skills including GeoScout and P2 Energy’s CS Explorer;
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment with a diverse group of individuals;
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
